Wagon falling and Claymates

So this is my very first guest post. I'm a guest-posting virgin, if you will. Bear with me as I am both giddy with excitement and nervous as hell. (think: Brenda Walsh on prom night) I’m not even exactly sure how this is supposed to work. Should I try to be funny? Witty? Should I try to sound smart? Should I write about newsworthy current events? Hmmm….you’ll also have to forgive me. I’m slightly distracted by the sugar and carbs that are currently running through my body.
You see, last night my husband came home with a gift for me. the best gift I've ever gotten.
A giant cinnamon roll with cream cheese icing. It was hot and gooey and wonderful. I'm reviewing this book by Natalie Babbit at work, it’s called The Search for Delicious, and I should tell them that they can stop their search. I've got their delicious in my kitchen. I am telling y'all – heaven on a plate.
I know, I know. This is NOT on South Beach. I cheated. I’m a cheater. I had 11 days! 11 days of no carbs and no sugar. Now I feel like I need to find a meeting or something. I’ve fallen off the wagon.
Although, wonder of wonders, when I got on the scale this morning, after 10 morning of ZERO weight loss (and I don’t count the .5 pound daily up and down fluctuation), I was 3½ pounds down! Since Earl and I are both big believers in karma, I don’t know what to do with this information. Should I take it is…my body is meant to have carbs and sugar (mmmmm….sugar) so go ahead and eat it. Enjoy. Or, should I take this as a sign that I should go back on the diet. Karma. Hmmm? Anyone?
I do actually talk about things that are NOT diet related these days. I know some people think I’m totally consumed with it. But, I’m not. What I really wanted to talk about today is the whole RIPA-gate fiasco that's sweeping the nation. And Canada, too. Y'all know which one I’m talking about. Kelly Ripa? Clay Aiken? Rosie O'Donnell?

Okay…so, let me get this straight. (no pun intended there). Clay puts his hand over Kelly Ripa's mouth. She pulls his hand away and says, "I don’t know where your hand's been honey!"
And this makes her a homophobe, Rosie?

I should think an action and comment like this should make her a germophobe, not a homophobe.
Because the more I think about it, the more I think I would have done. the. exact. same. thing. Only I probably wouldn’t have been as funny.
Come on, people. I wouldn’t want anyone putting his hands over my mouth. Man, woman, gay, straight. Unless i know that he or she had used a bottle of purell. I don't even know if I'd make exception for Jude Law. (oh, who am I kidding. I totally would)
What about you? Thoughts? Was Rosie O’Donnell right? Wrong?

since this is my blog, I guess I have the right to post a comment.

Luckily, I agree. I like Rosie, I have always respected her as an openly gay woman, advocator of children's rights, and all the several other causes she has given a voice over the years. I find her loud and overbearing, and I would kill to have her in my circle of friends. BUT, I think she was overly sensitive on this issue. I think she handled it badly. I believe she should have shown journalistic responsibility and talked to Kelly in private, asking what her issue really was. Because trust me, being a nurse, I totally see where the "don't touch me" stuff is coming from. I creep out when a patient touches me on my uniform or arms, etc. When I touch them, mostly, I am gloved. That is not to say I won't hold someone's hand when they are scared, or hug a patient or family member who needs to be hugged, but I am very meticulous about germs. I truly believe that is where Kelly was coming from on that. I feel badly for Clay that he has such insecurity about his sexuality that he felt this was a slam on him rather than take it for what it is worth.

As for the cinnamon bun and cream cheese, I never met one I didn't like.....I am glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to post such a wonderful post for me!! YOU ROCK!!!

I'd let Clive Owen do that to me any time, any place, under any circumstance, with or without purell.... ;)

That cinnamon roll sounds INSANE. *drool* *drool*

And, Ali, you are the best guest blogger EVAH!! (but, how did you have the time!!!??? You amaze...!)

An excellent guest blog.
Love, love, love the giant cinnamon rolls w/cream cheese icing - add some nuts and I would be in comtose heaven.
Ok .. I love Rosie, I do really. But I have to agree that she is just too sensitive about this stuff. I can't imagine that she would like it if ANYONE put their hand over her mouth. Heavens, can you imagine?? I am 50/50 on the feeling bad for Clay - I mean, he has never said that he was gay, so there is Rosie runnin' off at the mouth announcin' it to the world. But I also think that he seemed sortof rude w/Kelly BEFORE the hand thing. Really, he is guest hosting on an inrcedible show, he should be grateful and gracious.
Just my humble opinion!

Yes you are an excellent guest blogger.
Thanks for bringing Ripa-gate to my attention. I am woefully behind on my daytime TV.

Congrats on the cinnamon bun weight loss!

Hiya (directed here from Ali's CTT)...well, I watch The View on weekends and I totally adore Rosie. I think Kelly is great too.

BUT...while I completely believe Kelly's explanation, I don't think that Rosie was being oversensitive. Being a lesbian is big part of who she is and it wasn't that long ago, that women like her couldn't come out of the closet. Did she handle it "badly"? Maybe. The real thing that bugs me about this is: that Clay Aiken has no goddamn MANNERS (what he did was gross) and he should get a life. I pegged him as gay when I first saw him interviewed on Oprah...and so what??

I think that there would be a hell of a lot less hoohaa in the world if people (especially men) got REAL and stopped being so bloody insecure.

(Disclaimer: My MIL is a lesbian and my daughter's godparents are as well).

heidi...i have NOTHING against lesbians. seriously. and i love Rosie. i just don't see how a comment like that was anything homophobic. i can't find the "i don't know where you hand has been" to be a GAY comment in any way. heterosexuals' hands could be in less than "put your hand on my face" places.

clay has no manners and was embarrassed. i think he's playing the sexual orientation card" because that's the only way to swing this in his favor.

Rosie opens her mouth sans brain in gear and poof, promptly puts her foot in it. I just wish someone would stitch that woman's mouth shut.

I ditto what alexandra said. That woman is just so offensive on so many levels. I really liked her until she started getting confrontational and rude with guests who didn't agree with her on her LAST show.

Being a lesbian doesn't give her the right to judge other people.
